Close games in each age group: here is board 1 in round 5 of EUYCC U12.

Five from nine rounds are played in Mureck. In European Union Youth Championship no player has a score of 100%. In U14 Claudiu-Daniel Vasile (ROU) and Gary Giroyan (FRA) are leading with 4,5 points. Best girl is Daria-Iona Visanescu (ROU).

Age group U12 sees a single leader. Bilel Ballahcene from France has 4,5 points and is followed from five players with 4 points. In this group Elise Bellaiche (FRA) is best girl up to now. Other players who share second place are Ottomar Ladva (EST), Zygimantas Svitojus (LTU), Austrians Martin Christian Huber and Peter Urbanc (SLO).

Two players are leading together in U10. Oliver Spacek (SVK) and Riza Salim (ROU) have 4,5 points. Mai Narva (EST) is best girl with 3,5 points.

Nice kids in age group U8 show really good chess already. Again it is a player from Slovakia who is leading. Viktor Gazik, son of well known IM Igor Gazik, leads together with Matei Oprita (ROU). Best girl is from Poland: Agata Dwilewicz with 3,5 points.

05.08.2009, day 1 - Opening Ceremony and 1st round

European Union Youth Chess Championship was an idea of Kurt Jungwirth, who is president of Austrian Chess Federation, and important in cultural life in Styria. His good connections helped to organize a first tournament in Graz, which was 2003 cultural capital of Europe. EUYCC was part of a project "chess003".

In 2004 Erich Gigerl, who is chief organiser, has found a new place for EUYCC in Mureck, his home region. Supported from Styrian government he is able to invite all federations of European Union and most of them decided to come.

Mureck

This year it is 7th tournament and 6th in Mureck. Nice tradition is to organize a parallel tournament for other federations or additional players. International Styrian Youth Open has furthermore other age groups.

ECU-President Boris Kutin came and declared tournament opened.

This year there are 242 players from 23 federations, a new record.

From 5th to 13th August EUYCC is played in age groups U-08, U-10, U12 and U14.

More Fotos are availabe in our galleries
